Frequently
Asked Questions About Passport
Q: If I’m not a 1st
year student, can I still do the program?
A: No, the Passport Program was specifically designed to introduce the 1st
years to the campus by getting them to participate in activities by various
administrative and student services amongst other organizations.
Q: What if I’m near completion but wasn’t able to finish
it in my 1st year, can I continue in my 2nd year?
A: No, students would have had a sufficient amount of time to complete
the booklet if they chose to look into all the activities/events available.
Q: What do I get out
of this?
A:
You would have diversified and enriched your university experience by
immersing yourself in the UTM community. You would get the opportunity
to meet new people, build contacts, and become aware of what the university
has to offer. In the end, you would become a more well rounded student
by having participated in academic and social activities, committing altruistic
deeds and obtaining leadership roles. Not only would the student have
gained much valuable information and experience, students would be awarded
a letter of recognition from the president of the University of Toronto,
a prize pack and the chance to win various other prizes ($500 gift certificate
from the UofT bookstore, $300 gift certificate from Travel CUTS, etc.)
Q: What exactly do I do?
A: Students participate in activities found on campus and will be awarded
a stamp (under a specific category) for their initiative. Students are
responsible for bringing their booklet to the date of the event for stamping
(if not, there is no way of confirming that you were present). The name
of the activity and the initials of the person running the event are required
for the stamp to be valid. You must complete the entire booklet by getting
a total of 16 stamps.
Q: How do we know where to go to get things stamped?
A:(1)
Check the Passport webpage (i.e. the current url you are browsing) frequently for current events and .pdf
files listing all the services and organizations (including the activities
offered and which category they would fall under) that are taking part
in the program.
(2) Bookmark the UTM calendar (www.utm.utoronto.ca/calendar). There’s
a section specifically for upcoming Passsport events.
(3) Sign up for the UTM Passsport listserv by sending an email to utmpassport@yahoo.com.
Reminders, etc. will be sent (bi-)weekly on activities regarding the
program or of any other special events.
(4) Look for the poster in the South Building!
(5) Look for posters with the Passport emblem. They will list various
events or activities specific to the organization and will indicate the
category for the stamp of which you’d be earning.
Q: What if I didn’t get the initials but got the stamp or vice
versa?
A: (1) no initials but stamped = invalid. The student would have to complete
another activity to make up for the invalid stamp.
(2) no stamp but initials present = valid. Students can go to the Student
Centre Events office (rm. 250) to get their booklet stamped but must be
prepared to answer questions regarding the event/activity.
Q: What if I forgot to bring my booklet to the event? Can I still get
a stamp?
A: No, not unless the event required registration of some sort, there
is no way to confirm that you were there.
Q: When is the last day to hand in a completed booklet?
A: April 8, 2005.
