Study Elsewhere Program

Il Campo

The Faculty of Arts and Science has exchange agreements with partner institutions around the world that are administered by the Study Elsewhere & Exchange Office (SEEO). The exchanges allow students in the Faculty of Arts and Science to study elsewhere for the entire length of their third academic year. If the exchanges available are not practical to a student’s program of study, the SEEO also administers self-directed study options.

SEEO exchanges are Faculty of Arts and Science agreements with specific international universities that have a comparable academic program. The word exchange should not be taken literally however. Students from abroad will not live in the homes of outgoing students. The only obligation that an outgoing student has to an incoming student is to pay U of T tuition and incidental fees which covers the cost of the visiting student.

If none of the SEEO exchange destinations compliment a student’s program, they can apply for the SEEO self-directed program. Keep in mind that a self-directed study proposal requires a great deal of independent initiative, research, and preparation. The student’s desired destination must also be cleared by the SEEO.
Similar to the exchange program, students wishing to participate in the self-directed program must be selected by the SEEO committee.

Siena's Duomo ELIGIBILITY
  • Faculty of Arts and Science students can apply only in their second year of study (8 full credits), with the intention of studying abroad during the entire third year of a degree program.
  • Students must have a minimum GPA of at least 2.0 (C) at the end of their first year (first 4 credits) in order to be considered for an interview.
  • Students must have a minimum CGPA of at least of 2.50 (B-) at the end of their second year of study (8 full credits).
  • Students must be enrolled in one specialist or two major programs with at least three of the courses required for the program(s) completed by May 2004.
SEEO students who go abroad to study are expected to complete the equivalent of a full-course load (5.0 full credits in the Faculty of Arts and Science) over the period of a full academic year. Those students going abroad through an exchange agreement must pay U of T tuition equal to 5 credits whether they decide to take the full-course load or not.
