This course counts towards an Italian Minor or as an elective.
 

Exclusion: ITA 247Y

A study of Italian cinema from 1975 to the present. Stress will be laid on the production of the last years which features the work of a new generation of filmmakers. Authors included: Bellocchio, Moretti, Salvatores, Soldini, Crialese, Muccino and others. [52L, 52P]

Teaching will be done through formal lectures, but also with seminars to ensure student participation. Some lectures (e.g., the family, interpersonal relationships) will receive special attention. Aspects of filmology will also be examined especially in relation to North American practises. About 20 films in total will be viewed. Nearly all films will be on DVD and will have Italianin the dialogues with English subtitles.

The students will have to do their written work in Italian. This course counts towards any program in Italian.
