Mentor Positions
______________________________________________________________

Position Description:

Position Title: Peer Mentor
Number Of Positions: 20
Hours Of Work Per Week: 1-2 hours
Position Duration: 1 year (May 2009 to May 2010)

Peer mentors provide leadership, guidance, and support to students as they make the transition to university.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet individually with mentees once a week
  • Participate in academic and social activities with mentees
  • Assist students become familiar with university resources
  • Serve as a positive role model, friend, and confidant
  • Provide support, encouragement, and positive perspectives
  • Attend ongoing training sessions and social events offered throughout the year
  • Attend progress meetings every 6 weeks with Disability Specialist - LS/AT and Mentee
  • Submit monthly feedback evaluations regarding mentee and self-performance

Qualifications:

  • Undergrad (3rd or 4th year), graduate students
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Team player
  • Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates initiative and requires minimal supervision
  • Empathy and commitment to principles of equity and diversity
