Mentor Positions

Position Description:
Position Title: Peer Mentor
Number Of Positions: 20
Hours Of Work Per Week: 1-2 hours
Position Duration: 1 year (May 2009 to May 2010)
Peer mentors provide leadership, guidance, and support to students as they make the transition to university.
Responsibilities:
- Meet individually with mentees once a week
- Participate in academic and social activities with mentees
- Assist students become familiar with university resources
- Serve as a positive role model, friend, and confidant
- Provide support, encouragement, and positive perspectives
- Attend ongoing training sessions and social events offered throughout the year
- Attend progress meetings every 6 weeks with Disability Specialist - LS/AT and Mentee
- Submit monthly feedback evaluations regarding mentee and self-performance
Qualifications:
- Undergrad (3rd or 4th year), graduate students
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Positive attitude
- Team player
- Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Demonstrates initiative and requires minimal supervision
- Empathy and commitment to principles of equity and diversity
