Saturday Program in Mississauga
Saturday Program in Mississauga (SPM) is a tutoring and mentorship program that will be held every Saturday morning at University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) from February to April. It targets high school students who are identified as having trouble in school by their counsellors. Building upon the success of the long standing Saturday Program in Toronto (since 1996), SPM came to existence as the result of collaboration between the University of Toronto Medical School, UTM, UTM Association of Graduate Students (UTMAGS), and Peel District School Board.
In this program, graduate and medical student mentors provide a mix of academic work, fun learning activities, and workshops to motivate mentees and open their eyes to the possibility of post- secondary education. SPM is the first student run organization to be sponsored by the brand new extension of the University of Toronto Medical School in Mississauga, opening in 2011. By participating in this exciting program, you will not only assist the high school students in your community but also help to pave the way for the future student-lead activities in the Mississauga Medical Academy. Upon completion of the program you will also receive a certificate from the Faculty of Medicine Office of Health Professions Student Affairs as a token of our appreciation.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY AS A TUTOR?
All University of Toronto students in the undergraduate and graduate levels are eligible to apply. However, preference is given to the students from health professions, UTM, or graduate level programs.
All applicants are subject to a police reference check.
