University is the place where students have the opportunity to develop and grow their leadership abilities. Through the utmLEAD program, you will be able to develop and enhance a personal philosophy of leadership that includes understanding of self, others, and community, and acceptance of responsibilities inherent in community membership.

utmLEAD is founded on a peer-facilitated model that is developed in collaboration with campus and community partners. In other words, this is a program for students, primarily led by students! Our Peer Leadership Coaches (PLC) will facilitate, co-facilitate or participate in every utmLEAD sessions.

Using the Social Change Model as our foundation, we have divided the program into three streams:

  1. Individual
  2. Group
  3. Community

You can choose to concentrate on one stream or take the challenge and complete all three in one year or through out your University career!

Completion of each stream leads to a certificate of recognition from the Department of Student Life. To complete each stream you will need to:

  1. Attend a stream specific foundations workshop
  2. Complete 3 elective utmLEAD seminars within the given stream
  3. Participate in the reflection session for the stream

*Note: the community stream counts active non-paid involvement within the UTM community as an elective seminar (i.e. executive role within a recognized student group, participation in community engagement projects, etc.)
