Community Connections with the Newcomer Comer Centre of Peel
Mississauga welcomes many newcomers to the commun
ity every year and provides a wide range of programs and services to help make their arrival and settlement a smooth transition. The Department of Student Life at UTM has partnered with the Newcomer Centre of Peel to offer students the opportunity to participate in this great initiative. The program is conveniently located around the corner from the UTM campus, and you only need to commit to three times a month to make a real difference in someone's life!
Commitment:
Volunteer for at least 3 group events a month for the Winter semester.
About the Position:
The Community Connection’s volunteer is an ambassador of Canada! Volunteers are responsible for creating and maintaining positive culture and a community spirit while building connections to and relationships with newcomers through engaging and informed activities.
End Result: Participants enjoy themselves and become more comfortable, confident, familiar and connected with their surroundings and with people.
What you do:
- Interact with youth who have arrived in Canada within the last year or two in a group setting varying in size, from 3 people to upwards of 20;
- Socialize! Make introductions, start conversations and encourage others in various ways;
- Participate! In a minimum of three group activities a month over a 4 month period;

Provide information relating to life in Canada (schooling, community, resources, history, Mississauga specific, etc.)

Pick up an application package from the Department of Student Life, located in the Davis Building - Room 2075C.
