Course Requirements/Expectations

Students admitted to the Research Opportunity Program must fulfill all program requirements as established at the beginning of the project.  Students are asked to enter into contract with their supervising instructor prior to the start of the course through the ROPAPP.  The purpose of the contract is to clarify your responsibilities and the responsibilities of the student in the project.

Course Requirements:

1. Each student must keep a journal* recording meetings, progress, and of what was learned about the project in particular and the nature of research in general.

2. Students must meet at least bi-monthly with their supervisor(s) and record the dates and times of those meetings.

3. Students will attend any demonstrations, orientations, etc. that the supervisor may require.

4. Students will submit a two page interin report detailing their research experience before mid-term marks are calculated.  Equally, the supervisor will complete a two page written assessment of the student's progress and discuss it with the student BEFORE THE DEADLINE TO DROP COURSES WITHOUT PENALTY.  Additional work in some form, including the journal*, should constitute at least 50% of the final grade.  Final grades will be either alpha or numeric (i.e. 90 or A+). A final examination will not constitute part of the evaluation.

* A journal may be optional for 399Y + 499Y projects.

In addition to your specific project requirements for students, they are also required to have met or completed the ROP Course Prerequisites.  For a listing of the existing ROP Course Prerequisites please click here.
