"Slavery on Trial: Law, Print, and Abolitionism" (University of North Carolina Press, forthcoming 2006) is the first of two companion volumes on narratives of race and justice in pre-1900 America. I am currently conducting research for the second book, "Last & Dying Words: Black Atlantic Gallows Literature".
