Full Research Description:
Most of my work deals with some aspect of infrastructure provision in developing-country megacities (including water and sanitation services, housing, solid waste collection and disposal, and transportation) and/or development and implementation of policy and planning from a political-economy perspective in third world urban areas. My most recent work focuses on the relevance of social networks and trust to environmental policy design and implementation and how knowledge regarding networks and community perceptions might be incorporated into environmental management and governance of urban areas. Lois Takahashi (UCLA), Jeff Carpenter (Middelbury) and I are working to deepen this research to include qualitative research as well as quantitative analysis.

Finally, I am working with Professor Michael Douglass at the University of Hawaii (among others) on a book that explores the relationships between urban governance and civic spaces in Asian cities.
