Academic Culture and English Program (ACE)

Welcome to ACE@UTM

The ACE (Academic Culture and English) program is designed for students who have been admitted to the University of Toronto Mississauga but who require additional English language skills training. Completion of ACE@UTM may be a condition of an offer of admission. The program is led by instructors from the renowned University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies.

ACE@UTM is specifically designed to target the development of communication, research and study skills. The skills acquired will lead participants toward greater success in their studies.

Summer ACE@UTM

Summer ACE@UTM will enable you to excel in your academic studies by:

  • increasing your familiarity with the academic culture and conventions at UTM
  • improving your academic listening skills and strategies
  • enhancing your ability to tackle and critique demanding academic tests
  • expanding your academic vocabulary
  • giving you the opportunity to participate in and gain feedback from stimulating activities designed to develop your strengths in communication and presentation skills
  • providing you with the tools you need to produce complex and well-developed pieces of writing
  • guiding you in effective test-taking strategies

Students taking the Summer ACE@UTM Program will take 240 hours of Academic English Level 60 language instruction over 8 weeks to prepare for academic studies in September. Students will also have the option of living in an on-campus residence for this program. You may apply for Summer ACE@UTM if:

  • Summer ACE@UTM is a condition or recommendation of your offer of admission; and
  • you have studied in a Canadian high school for at least one year prior to starting classes at UTM in September
