Application Materials Required

MBiotech Students

Transcripts

Official transcripts can be scanned and uploaded to applicants' online applications. The application system will be active for MBiotech on September 21, 2012 and the deadline to submit supporting application materials for May 2013 admission, including transcripts, is January 11, 2013.

No applicants will be permitted to register before scanned transcripts are verified against an official copy. An official print copy must be provided at the time an offer of admission is made. If an offer of admission "conditional upon the successful completion of your program" is made, these grades need to be confirmed with the submission of an official transcript.

For complete details about submitting transcripts, please refer to these FAQ.

References

As part of your electronic application, three letters of reference are required. Good choices of referees, in the following order of preference, would include:

  1. professors or other key individuals familiar with your undergraduate research or undergraduate thesis
  2. professors familiar with your third and fourth year academics
  3. employers with relevance to biotechnology or science industry
  4. TAs, others

Referees with institutional e-mail addresses can upload their references to your online application. Enter your referees’ names and (institutional) email addresses into your Online Application. The system will automatically email an electronic reference request to each referee after you have submitted payment. Although you will provide the referee information before payment, the system will not notify your referees until after you have selected to pay the application online or offline. It is highly recommended that applicants contact their referees ahead of time to confirm both their availability their preferred institutional email address.

Referees without institutional e-mail addresses (e.g. yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc) should send original, hard copies of their letters of reference directly to:

Master of Biotechnology
University of Toronto Mississauga
3359 Mississauga Road, Room DV2071

For more detailed information regarding the process, or what to do if you need to change information about your referees, please see these FAQ.

GRE Subject Test Scores

Applicants with degrees from non-Canadian institutions

From applicants whose degrees are from non-Canadian institutions, official copies of GRE Subject Test scores are mandatory

Applicants with Canadian degrees but with a "mid-B" in their final two years of study

GRE Subject scores are recommended/suggested for any student who are applying with a "mid-B" in their final two years of study, in order to present your best case for admission, as successful applicants typically present higher than the minimum required GPA.

Which test should be written?

Applicants should write the GRE Subject Test in their discipline (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, etc) rather than the General Test.

What minimum test score is required?

Applicants should score within the top 25th percentile of the cohort within which they write. This is not a cut-off, but recommended.

Original copies of test scores should be requested and sent to the address below.
