Born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, Any had the opportunity to experience life in an American University in Beirut for two years, before moving to Canada. A proud graduate of Erindale College, University of Toronto (UTM), with an Honours B. Sc. in Physics, she started temporary work as a teaching assistant for applied mathematics courses, in 1973, and never left. Over the years, her desire to do research in Physics was replaced by raising a family and a passion for teaching. She spent all of these years teaching courses in the Mathematics Department (MCS) with a 2-3 year stint, part time, on the St. George Campus, heading the department's MATHNET Outreach initiative to high school teachers and students.

Any has taken an active part in establishing a diagnostic assessment for all first year mathematics students, followed by workshops to help bridge any gaps they might have. This assessment, called "Calculus Readiness Assessment" was administered for the first time in September 2007, and again in September 2008.
