Professional Experience Year
The Professional Experience Year (PEY) is about more than just exposure to jobs. It's about:
- Accomplishments - because 12 to 16 months of work allows you to complete large-scale projects and reach professional milestones.
- Developing lasting relationships with employers.

What are the Benefits of PEY?
- PEY gives you an edge in the workplace: Many PEY students secure a position before they graduate from UofT. PEY students, can also negotiate a starting salary that is 20% or more above the salaries of their non-PEY counterparts!
- PEY provides career clarity: Spending 12 to 16 months in a professional work environment will give you a good opportunity to explore career paths within your placement and build valuable industry contacts.
- PEY offers a wide range of opportunities: For the current PEY internship year, 2007-2008, there are 520 students on placements, some of which are in Switzerland, the United States, and Japan!
- PEY opens industry doors: Many of our graduates begin networking for thier future careers during PEY. After graduation, many students go on to work full-time for the companies where they completed their PEY internship.
- PEY is a paid internship: Salaries for this year ranged from $33,600 to $45,233.
The Professional Experience Year program is now open to
students in all programs offered by the Department of
Mathematical and Computational Sciences.
