Three U of T students named 2013 Rhodes Scholars

Three students from the University of Toronto will pursue post-graduate studies at Oxford University next year after being named Rhodes Scholars for 2013.

The Rhodes Scholarships are among the world’s most prestigious postgraduate awards supporting outstanding all-round students at Oxford. Only 83 students from universities around the world – and 11 from Canada - are chosen each year.  The University of Toronto is the only university in Canada with more than one Rhodes Scholar this year.

What is your name, position/title, and years at U of T?

I'm Rhonda McEwen, an assistant professor of new media. I teach the world's BEST students at the Institute of Communication, Culture, and Information Technology at U of T Mississauga and at the Faculty of Information. I am originally from Trinidad and Tobago and an alumna of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine; Cass - City University, London; the University of Colorado, Boulder, and of U of T .

Industrial Inroads

Eva Furczon has always found innovation in healthcare business very intellectually interesting. So with this pursuit as a driving force, coupled with her passion for forging new ways to facilitate access to innovative medicines, she enrolled in the University of Toronto Mississauga’s Master of Biotechnology (MBiotech) program.

It was while earning this Master’s degree that Furczon (MBiotech 2010) established an active partnership with Professor Leigh Revers, one of the faculty members at U of T Mississauga who teaches in the program.

As the director of the Social-Emotional Development and Intervention lab at U of T Mississauga, Malti has an enduring engagement with the healthy development and welfare of children and youth.
