U of T Mississauga hosts visual, performing arts festival

A showcase of visual and performing arts exhibits will be presented on Friday, Feb. 8, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., in the atrium of the Communication, Culture and Technology (CCT) building, 3359 Mississauga Rd. N., U of T Mississauga.

The annual arts festival, which features student works of drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, sculpture, dance, music, theatre and poetry, is designed to expose students, alumni and community members to the wealth of artistic talent at U of T Mississauga.

Students experience diversity in “Borrowed Shoes”

Two weeks. Eleven challenges. Ninety students.

U of T Mississauga introduces 90 first-year students to the idea of “walking in another’s shoes” through a series of equity and diversity challenges that include having students walk barefoot, use wheelchair-accessible routes, and sleep on the floor.

Borrowed Shoes, a two-week initiative running on campus from January 28 to February 8, comprises daily challenges and reflection activities designed to enhance an appreciation of accessibility and poverty issues.

Computer science students win 2013 Young Entrepreneurs Challenge

A team of U of T Mississauga computer science students won first place — and a prize of $2,500 — at the 2013 Young Entrepreneurs Challenge (YEC), where students pitched business ideas to a panel of corporate executives, Dragons’ Den style.

Fourth-year students Sabin Sadeh, Mark Zaky and Andrew Kim presented a virtual jukebox app called eJuked at the competition held on campus in January. Teams were allotted 10 minutes to sell their business concepts in front of a panel of industry leaders and successful entrepreneurs.

U of T Mississauga featured in new episode of Canada’s Greatest Know-It-All

The U of T Mississauga campus will be featured in a new episode of Discovery’s Canada’s Greatest Know-It-All airing on Jan. 21, 2013.

Billed as ‘competition-reality’, Canada’s Greatest Know-It-All pits 10 of Canada’s brightest minds in head-scratching challenges designed to test their brains, ingenuity and game-playing savvy. The UTM challenge features a forensic science crime scene that will provide contestants with one of the most baffling situations they will face all season. 

Wealthy Barber author, CBC Dragon to speak at U of T Mississauga

David Chilton, author of the Wealthy Barber books and the newest member of CBC's Dragons’ Den, will provide tips and insight on personal finance on Friday, Feb. 8, 3:30 p.m., in the Recreation, Athletics and Wellness Centre, 3359 Mississauga Rd. N., U of T Mississauga.
