High-tech entrepreneur/environmentalist discusses 'green' technology at public lecture

The co-developer of North America's greenest hotel and a high-tech entrepreneur who focuses his efforts on carbon mitigation will discuss how to kick the fossil fuel habit at a free public lecture Wednesday, Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m. in the Matthews Auditorium (room 137), Kaneff Centre, U of T Mississauga, 3359 Mississauga Rd. N.

Tom Rand, a venture capitalist and environmentalist, will speak about Kicking the Fossil Fuel Habit - Possibilities & Opportunities: A Convergence of Capital, Science and Technology at the 2010-11 U of T Mississauga Snider Lecture.

Staff, faculty recognized at Principal's Awards Reception

As she took to the podium to receive the U of T Mississauga's faculty Teaching Excellence Award, Professor Alexandra Gillespie joked that she had been practising in front of a mirror with a hairbrush since she was seven years old. Aboriginal oral history focus of Perspectives lecture

The oral tradition of aboriginal peoples and its use in reconstructing aboriginal pasts will be the focus of a Canadian Perspectives lecture on Thursday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m., at Erindale United Church, 1444 Dundas Cr., Mississauga.

Lecturer Alexander von Gernet of the University of Toronto Mississauga will discuss how the verbal history of aboriginal peoples helps to rebuild their past and how it can be used as evidence in aboriginal litigation. Von Gernet is one of only a few Canadians with published scholarship in archeology, ethnohistory and oral historiography.

U of T one of Canada's Top 100 employers

The University of Toronto has been named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2011 in the annual competition run by Mediacorp Canada Inc.

This is the fourth time U of T has been named to the list of exemplary employers in the 11 years the competition has been held. It is one of only four post-secondary institutions so honoured for 2011.
