U of T Mississauga co-hosts crime prevention conference

A study linking socio-economic factors, community health and criminal activities, and a program that empowers bystanders to take positive action when faced with violent situations are two of the presentations at the upcoming 2011 Crime Prevention Conference at U of T Mississauga this Friday.

Community to observe Remembrance Day

A reading of the famous war memorial poem, “In Flanders Fields,” and a rendition of the Last Post trumpet call will be heard at U of T Mississauga’s Remembrance Day ceremony Friday, Nov. 11, in front of the William G. Davis Building.

Gilbert Cassar, president of the U of T Mississauga Students Union, will read the First World War poem written in 1915 by U of T alumnus Lt. Col. John McCrae. The Last Post, used at Commonwealth ceremonies commemorating those killed in war, will be played and the flag lowered to half staff.

Walk for Africa symbolic of struggles facing drought-stricken mothers

On Sept. 2, University of Toronto Mississauga graduate student and mother of three, Viara Mileva will walk from the University of Toronto Mississauga to the University of Toronto's St. George campus. This journey -over 30 kilometres-will raise money for UNICEF's emergency fund to help drought-stricken migrants across Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti and Ethiopia, the region known as the horn of Africa.

Think Pink: U of T Mississauga gets ready for the CIBC Run for the Cure

Imagine a sea of pink on the campus green. Imagine pink ribbons, wigs and tutus worn over U of T blue. On Sunday, Oct. 2, U of T Mississauga will host the second annual CIBC Run for the Cure in Mississauga, and students, staff, faculty and alumni are encouraged to join the UTM team.

U of T Mississauga phases out bottled water sales

U of T Mississauga will eliminate the sale and distribution of bottled water on campus over a three-year period, beginning next month.

As part of U of T's decision to phase out sales of bottled water, U of T Mississauga will eliminate bottled water in some food service outlets and all vending machines, starting Sept. 1. Specifically, there will be no sale of bottled water in Colman Commons in Oscar Peterson Hall, the Instructional Centre, Circuit Break café in the Communication, Culture and Technology (CCT) building and Spigel Hall in the Davis Building.
