Philanthropist donates $12 million to Mississauga health sciences complex

Philanthropist Terrence Donnelly has donated $12 million to the University of Toronto to support students and help construct a new Health Sciences Complex at U of T Mississauga. The gift is the largest donation ever made to the Mississauga campus.

Donnelly’s gift will support the construction of the building that will house the Mississauga Academy of Medicine and support medical students through bursaries and scholarships. The facility will be named the Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex.

Parking lot closures to enable completion of paving

Parking lot 9 and access to and from the underground garage near the Communication, Culture and Technology Building will be closed all day Saturday, Nov. 6, and possibly Sunday, Nov. 7. The above-ground lot and garage will open again no later than the morning of Monday, Nov. 8.

The lot closures, said chief administrative officer Paul Donoghue, will allow paving crews onto the site of the Health Sciences Complex on the east side of campus. “With winter weather closing in, we need to take advantage of every opportunity to complete the paving work,” he noted.

N.

Tom Rand, a venture capitalist and environmentalist, will speak about Kicking the Fossil Fuel Habit - Possibilities & Opportunities: A Convergence of Capital, Science and Technology at the 2010-11 U of T Mississauga Snider Lecture.
