New science building gets governance green light

A long-awaited science building at U of T Mississauga received approval from governance last month and is now moving forward.

Professor Ulrich Krull, UTM’s vice-president and principal, presented the proposal to Governing Council on Dec. 14. The UTM Science Building, which will be located in the space between the William G. Davis Building and the Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex, will provide much-needed wet laboratory space for the campus’s current and planned research needs. It is expected to be completed in 2021.

UTM TimeTracker has officially launched, giving students at the University of Toronto Mississauga a handy new tool to stay on top of busy schedules. Developed by the Office of Student Transition, the free online scheduling platform features a customizable calendar to keep track of courses, assignments, extracurricular activities and grades.

Order of Ontario recognizes U of T community members

Three University of Toronto faculty members have been recognized this week with appointments to the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest honour, including Professor Shashi Kant, the director of UTM's Master of Science in Sustainability Management program. His appointment was one of 23 announced Jan. 29 by the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and Chancellor of the Order of Ontario.

Researchers at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) have determined that the presence of a particular protein in the brain may suppress the brain’s ability to learn, making it a potential precursor to memory loss in later life.

UTM will hold its first-ever mental health fair this week with a day-long event for students, staff and faculty to learn more about mental health resources and supports on campus and in the community. #LetsTalkUTM takes place on Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the CCT Atrium. Organized by the Peer Health Ambassadors with UTM’s Health & Counselling Centre, the event features a photo exhibit, resources fair, a social media campaign and free self-care packages for participants.
