The UTM Linguistics Club will be holding an End of the Year Bash, Thursday March 28 at 5-6 pm, IB 240.
The Linguistics Club will be supplying snacks and drinks so students can get together and chat linguistics. With the added bonus of the presence of our profs. Come relax for an hour and ask those questions that you are dying to ask! Either to upper year students or to the professors in the program! Or just come hang out and enjoy food! You need not be in Linguistics to attend!

This year marks the 26th anniversary of the UTM Italian Play - a celebration we can enjoy thanks to your continued attendance and passion for Italian Studies. This year, we are presenting one of the first (and best) Italian Renaissance comedies by Ludovico Ariosto, La Lena. To ensure your experience is optimized, we will again be using subtitles throughout the show.
The price of admission to the play is:
$7 for students/seniors
$10 for adults
Please note that: Once again, this year, registration will be online, by visiting www.utm.utoronto.ca/italian-play. Should you prefer to book tickets with a live voice, you could speak with any Italian Play Representative, who will be happy to save your seats. A reservations rep can be reached at 905-569-5732. The Department of Language Studies in collaboration with UTM Library and Language Studies Academic Society present:
Canadian Language Museum, February 5-11, on the main floor of the UTM Library.
The exhibit is called Canadian English, Eh? and focuses on Canadians' distinctive use of English. This exhibit explores variations in Canadian English across the country, as well as influences from French and Aboriginal languages.

Gerard Van Herk is the Canada Research Chair in Regional Language and Oral Text, and director of the Memorial University Sociolinguistics Laboratory (http://musl.ling.mun.ca/about.html).
His research interests include creoles, African American English, gender, identity, and the Englishes of Quebec and Newfoundland. He is the author of ”What is Sociolinguistics?” (Wiley-Blackwell, 2012).

We would like to cordially invite you to the first Arab Culture Day at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). The event will take place on Friday, November 2nd 2012, 5 p.m. -10 p.m., in the CCIT Building (Atrium of CCIT, CCT 1080 and MiST Theatre).
The evening will be a compilation of entertaining and culturally relevant performances, including a Dabke performance, a poetry reading, a discussion with Palestinian author and scholar Mr. Naji Farah, traditional Arabic music performances, and a fashion show showcasing traditional costumes of the Arab countries. The event will conclude with a short play titled “Stuck."
Catered refreshments will be provided. Please see the event's poster for the highlights of the program.
