TCard Replacement for Upper Year Students

UTM I&ITS is pleased to announce that we are launching an initiative to replace all “non-tap” TCards. This will be done in conjunction with the UTM Office of the Registrar and UTM Hospitality & Retail Services.

WHAT:
Replacing the TCards of all remaining UTM students who have “non-tap” TCards.

WHEN:
Replacement will run from Monday, October 9th, 2017 to Friday, November 24th, 2017.

Students who are eligible will receive an email with specific dates and time for when they can come in for their replacement.

WHERE:
All TCard replacements will be done at the IT Service Desk in the CCT Atrium.

There will be special TCard stations set up for the duration of the replacement initiative.

PURPOSE:
Contactless TCards started being issued to UTM students in the summer of 2015. The contactless TCards offer better integration with exam and event attendance applications, as well as with campus retail services.

This has left most upper year students without contactless TCards. In order to address this, UTM I&ITS will facilitate the replacement of these TCards. As a thank you for coming to get your TCard replaced, you will be provided with a $5.00 food voucher that can be used anywhere on the UTM campus.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the IT Service Desk at helpdesk.utm@utoronto.ca or 905-828-5344.

Frequently asked questions:

Q. What is an upper year student?
A. Contactless cards were introduced at the UTM campus in the summer of 2015. Given this, this will typically apply to students entering their 3rd or 4th year of study.

Q. That’s me! When can I my new TCard?
A. The replacement initiative will be completed over 7 weeks, starting October 9th. You will receive an email with your designated replacement week and time. You will also receive reminders leading up to the replacement week.

Q. What do I need to bring when I get my TCard replaced?
A. You need one piece government issued ID and your current TCard. This TCard will be securely destroyed.

Q. Okay, but I’ve seemed to have misplaced my TCard and never bothered replacing it…
A. Let the employee replacing your TCard know this. Be aware that if you do find it, turn it into the IT Service Desk for disposal. Old TCards are deactivated upon replacement and cannot be activated or used again under any circumstances. The replacement fee for lost TCards is $20 and can be paid via debit or credit.

Q. I’m entering my 3rd or 4th year of study and I’m pretty sure I have one of those contactless cards already. Look at the chip on this card!
A. Having a small, square copper chip on your TCard doesn’t mean it’s contactless. Unless you’ve already had it replaced recently, it is not contactless.

Q. I’m entering my 1st or 2nd year of study and I’m pretty sure I don’t have one of those contactless cards.
A. There is a small group of these students that don’t have contactless cards. They will also be contacted to replace their TCard as part of this initiative. Your replacement week will be the week of November 20th.

Q. Okay, but I’m still pretty sure I don’t/do have a contactless TCard!
A. There’s an easy way to tell. Look on the back of your TCard, if there is a serial number in the lower left-hand corner, you have a newer, contactless card.

Q. I’m still not convinced. Well, actually, the numbers are all rubbed off…
A. Come to the IT Service Desk or have a Hospitality & Retail Services employee check at a register and we’ll be able to tell you for sure if your card is contactless.

Q. I knew it! My card isn’t contactless and it should be. What now?
A. Come to the IT Service Desk the week of November 20th, from 8am – 4pm. We’ll replace it free of charge and you’ll get a voucher too!

Q. I'm away because I'm on an abroad opportunity, I'm taking the semester off or otherwise not on campus during the replacement time.
A. Send an email to helpdesk.utm@utoronto.ca to let us know and we'll arrange an alternate time.

Q. What if I miss my chance to replace my TCard and it's past November 24th?
A. You will still need to have you TCard replaced, but it will be done at the normal $20 replacement fee.

Q. My date falls on a holiday. Will you still be open?
A. We will not be issuing TCards on holidays or any days that the campus is scheduled to be closed.

ServiceNow – New Service Portal

New Service PortalUTM Information & Instructional Technology Services (I&ITS) is proud to announce the launch of the new UTM Service Portal on Wednesday, August 16th. It will be a single point of contact to request services from multiple campus providers.

The initial launch will include I&ITS, Police Services (Door Access & Physical Security only) and Facilities. All this will be available from a single, convenient location, found at https://uoft.service-now.com/utm.

There have also been significant changes and improvements to how I&ITS services are requested. As well as a clean and user-friendly interface, you can look forward to the following:

  • Designed for use on desktop and mobile devices.
  • New search feature – use keywords to quickly find all I&ITS services and knowledge articles.
  • Revised service catalogue – submit requests for specific services. The service catalogue has been reorganized and re-labelled based on campus community input and best practices for higher education institutions.
  • "Get Help" – quick and straightforward access to report an issue or ask a question.
  • New knowledge base – introducing self-help and how-to articles to save you time and resolve common issues. Look for the knowledge base to grow over time as new knowledge articles are developed.

New Service CatalogueOnce the new Service Portal goes live on August 16th, we encourage you to drop by the IT Service Desk for a complete demo. We'll be happy to walk you through all of the various improvements and changes so you can easily request the services you need, when you need them.

Please note that after August 16th, links to existing ServiceNow tickets that you have in old emails from the ServiceNow system will no longer work. If you need to check on active or closed tickets, make sure to go to your service catalogue home page.
