A.R.T Program

The vibrant Arts and Culture community at UTM is supported by collaborations with various U of T Departments as well as numerous external partnerships within the greater community.
The Artistic Resource Team (A.R.T.) at the University of Toronto Mississauga is a student-based collective within the Department of Student Housing and Residence Life and the Department of Student Life. Our mandate is to provide students with programs that embrace their artistic talents and interests within the community. We focus on creative engagement by providing all UTM students with both work-study and volunteer opportunities, with the goal of making the arts accessible to all who are interested. By empowering students to take an active role in artistic initiatives, we aim to introduce them to all that the university and the greater Toronto area has to offer. From art gallery tours in downtown Toronto to evenings at UTM’s own Erindale theatre, we aim to create a unique residence experience for anyone willing to participate.

RezScapes
rezSCAPES Mural Project in Erindale Hall Study Rooms
Beginning in 2006, The RezScapes Mural Project was born from the need to provide students with a sense of pride and ownership in their Residence Common Spaces. This initiative works specifically with residence communities to create a design and then implement it on the walls of their common room. To date, we have created murals in Erindale Hall, Putnam Place and McLuhan Court, with plans to expand to the remainder of our common spaces in residence.
ArtsFest

The UTM Arts Festival is an annual event that provides our students with opportunities to express themselves creatively regardless of academic discipline. This experience is unique and extremely valuable to our students who prove year after year that the UTM community is rich with talent that deserves to be showcased.
The Arts Festival is designed and carried out by the student based collective known as the Artistic Resource Team. This team is made up of students from the University who are dedicated to providing a voice for students through opportunities in the arts. The team offers volunteer and work-study opportunities in combination with performance and exhibition possibilities. The Artistic Resource Team hosts many events throughout the year to profile the arts on campus, however, the Arts Festival is the highlight of our celebrations.
The Arts Festival is comprised of a variety of weeklong initiatives culminating in a student created visual art exhibition displaying over 100 works of art, and a performance showcase with 12-15 student performers. Additionally, all submissions are adjudicated by esteemed members of the university and alumni community, with the significant monetary prizes and artistic development opportunities for students. The Arts Festival also includes opportunities for audience participation, festival style performances, and artist workshops.
