Be The Change

One of Mahatma Gandhi's most famous quotes is
"Be the Change you wish to see in the world."

In residence at the University of Toronto at Mississauga, we firmly believe in the potential of our community members to affect change in the world around them. Living in such an active and supportive learning environment provides our residents the opportunity to make a significant impact on the life of their campus community and that which exists beyond the campus itself.  However, in order for our community members to affect change, small or large, a fundamental respect for human difference is critical.

To that end, the Be the Change campaign at UTM articulates our community's commitment to respect for all members of our community.

The Be the Change statement of commitment is as follows:

As members of a diverse community, we value respect. We believe in equitable treatment for all, regardless of race, sex, age, colour, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, size or abilities.

We strive to live in a world where peace, justice and equality are more than just words; and where acts of bias, hatred and violence will not be tolerated.

We are here to move beyond the boundaries of our differences and live together as one to achieve our one common goal.

Many programs and events in Residence carry the 'Be the Change' logo, because they are activities that encourage and promote these important community values.  All students are encouraged to participate in these experiences as they work towards achieving a greater understanding of themselves in relation to their peers and the world around them.
