Established in 1967 as Erindale College, the University of Toronto Mississauga began with one building, two tennis courts, 155 students, 28 faculty and 40 staff has grown to become the second largest division of the University of Toronto, Canada’s largest university.

First classes were held in September 1966 in temporary quarters at T.L. Kennedy Secondary School.

U of T Mississauga motto: Tantum Nobis Creditum, "So much has been entrusted to us."

The University was granted its coat of arms in 1975. The colours green and gold are dominantly featured and represent the natural beauty of the campus. The oak tree is from the U of T coat of arms and the wavy blue and silver bars in the chevron signify the proximity of the campus to the Credit River.

Situated on 225 acres of protected green belt along the Credit River, the campus is 32 kilometres west of the St.George campus in Toronto.

U of T Mississauga and Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning offer unique joint programs in Theatre and Drama studies, Art and Art History, and Communication, Culture and Information Technology (CCIT).

New facilities opened over the past couple of years at U of T Mississauga include: the Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre, a $34-million library and information complex; the Recreation, Athletics and Wellness Centre, which houses a fitness centre, elevated running track and eight-lane pool; and Oscar Peterson Hall, a 423-bed residence named for the late jazz legend, who was a longtime Mississauga resident.
