Historical Studies Society
Dear UTM historical studies students:
The Historical Studies Society (HSS) is the official academic society, as approved by the University of Toronto Students' Union (UTMSU), for students enrolled in a historical studies program of study. Our society is student-oriented in its approach to creating a conversation between students enrolled in historical studies programs and courses and faculty from the Department of Historical Studies. There are approximately 11,000 undergraduate students currently enrolled at UTM. Did you know that 1/3 of our population is enrolled in a historical studies program? To give you a rough idea, at present there are over 3,800 students in history courses. We're a historical studies family that keeps growing.
The HSS supports junior and senior undergraduates who have questions about:
- Subject Post options;
- Course selection;
- Social events (on & off campus) for history students;
- Academic workshops hosted by the HSS and Career Centre;
- Fundraisers held on campus;
- Text book exchanges/sales;
- Networking with like-minded peers in similar programs;
- Gaining volunteer experience at HSS-hosted activities;
- Grad school information; and,
- Career options and guidance.
You are encouraged to keep checking our Facebook page "Historical Studies Society at UTM" and/or e-mail us at hss.utm@utoronto.ca. You can also stay abreast of all things history by picking up a copy of our monthly newsletter "Tempus Fugit" from the Historical Studies Department, or reviewing the electronic copy which will be sent out at the beginning of the month. The bulletin board outside the department also has information, which is regularly monitored and updated by members of our team.
We look forward to meeting you in person. Since we recruit Outreach Committee members throughout the year, please let us know if you're interested in volunteering through e-mail or on Facebook.
Remember that you can always check the UTM Historical Studies Department website for additional program and course information.
