Urowitz, Rachel

Rachel Urowitz’s primary focus is Judaism in the Graeco-Roman period with an emphasis on Jews and early Christians in first century Palestine.  Her interests also include the reign of Herod and the later Herodian dynasty. She expands on her historical investigation by using realia of the day and emphasizes the importance of using archaeological data and material culture in her courses. 

Rachel has taught courses at the University of Toronto and at York University and has been involved in numerous excavations in northern Israel. She holds degrees from both the University of Toronto and Oxford University.
