Camp-US Safety Project

The CampUS Safety Project will enhance UTM's capacity to address the issue of violence against young women on campus and is funded by the Status of Women Canada.

CampUS is a joint initiative between Interim Place and the University of Toronto Mississauga.  It builds partnerships and collaboration between campus community stakeholders to identify and respond to the specific needs of young women on campus.  Students will help identify the issues of violence affecting young women on their campus, expand their understanding of these issues and help to prevent and reduce gender-based violence in their campus community.

CampUS aims to:

  • Conduct a campus safety audit
  • Research the experiences of young women on UTM's campus
  • Develop a Community Campus Safety Plan
  • Develop and implement "CampUS" - an education, awareness and prevention campaign
  • Document and share best practices with other campuses

How can you get involved?

Creating a campus that is safer for everyone requires everyone to do their part!  We're engaging students in the CampUS project though an online survey (now complete), focus groups, our celebratory launch, outreach and promotions volunteer opportunities and on our advisory committee. Each of these activities provides opportunities to learn more about women's safety and the CampUS project and are ways that you can GiveBack to your community.

Did you know...

1 in 6 women attending college or university is a survivor of rape?
The most common form of gender-based violence on campus is rape?
Many on-campus sexual assaults occur during the first 8 weeks of classes?
