Evergreen - University Partnership

Naturalization 2009
Seven successful planting events were held with helps from 208 volunteers that included U of T Mississauga students and staff, as well as community and corporate volunteer groups. 700 trees and shrubs were planted in an effort to enhance wildlife habitat in 8 areas of the U of T Mississauga campus.
Dr. Hevalka’s Bio205 class participated in stewardship events in the spring and fall, cutting invasive Tartarian Honeysuckle from the Old Field. 405 students participated in the spring, and 245 in the fall. The Old Field site was a destination along all UTM Nature trail tours, and at two of these tours, a seeding activity was included at the Old Field site.
Naturalization 2008
341 people from University of Toronto Mississauga and the general community participated in workshops, nature walks and stewardship events offered on campus. These events included monitoring and maintenance of naturalized areas, litter clean ups, and nature walks. Groups involved in these activities include St. Marks C.E.S., Mormon Camp and University of Toronto Mississauga Leadership Camp.
Naturalization 2007
Evergreen continues to lead naturalization and stewardship events with UTM and EcoSource. To date, over 20 sites have been naturalized on campus with Evergreen’s support. Restoring UTM’s natural areas through the engagement of the UTM community and the general public will remain the focus. In 2007, Evergreen will continue to plant native trees, shrubs and wildflowers enhancing the beauty and ecological integrity of the UTM campus. This project provides a great opportunity to tie in with UTM course curriculum. This year, students from Biology classes and staff from the advancement office will be participating in events.
