Biography
Alia Toor is an artist and educator whose interests lie in the intersection of culture, media and education. She holds an MA in Communication and Education from Columbia University, NYC. With over 10 years teaching experience, Toor is an accomplished educator and researcher with a proven ability to use progressive educational practices. She has taught at all levels of education, from elementary to post-secondary, and currently holds a sessional post at the School of Education, Trent University. Toor’s art practice explores how text and images inform social understanding of beauty, language, religion, belonging, and security. Her work includes installation, photography (digital and non digital) and textiles and uses language and images to explore the complexities of personal/private space, and the intersections of religion, language, and beauty.
