Dean’s Academic Society Initiative Prize

I am very pleased to announce that the Dean’s office is once again offering funding on a competitive basis for projects from UTM’s academic societies that address the following decanal priorities:

  • increasing faculty-student interaction
  • increasing the involvement of more senior undergraduate students with first year students
  • increasing opportunities for involvement of part-time students
  • increasing awareness and responsiveness to matters of equity and diversity

The deadline is January 15, 2013 with decisions communicated in two weeks.  Each academic society may receive a maximum amount of $1,000.00.

Sample events and activities include:  (1) a panel of 4th year students available to answer questions of first year students about their academic experience and future plans, (2) short research talks (with plenty of time for questions and discussion) by faculty or by graduate students to undergraduates and with additional faculty in attendance, (3) a meet and greet between faculty and students focused on topics of particular interest to students.

Proposals should describe the specific events or activities planned, a budget for those activities, and indicate whether or not faculty in the relevant program or department(s) have been consulted (particularly important when the aim is to increase faculty-student interaction).

Academic Societies are requested to submit their proposals to Anna Reale, Dean’s Office Administrative Assistant, either electronically at anna.reale@utoronto.ca or via campus mail at 3200 William Davis Building by January 15th, 2013.
