Application Procedure
Application Deadline

- January 31st is the deadline date for the receipt of all supporting documents, including letters of reference. Applicants must complete the online application and pay the application fee of $100 (Canadian) prior to the document deadline and no later than January 15th.
- International Students are advised to arrange for their applications to arrive by January 1st in order to resolve any issues before the firm deadline of January 31st.
- Students with major national or international scholarships may apply after the application deadline and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Application Instructions
Applications to the Graduate Department of Physics must be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) through the online admissions application process. A new module has been created in the SGS online application system that allows letters of reference and applicant authored documents to be electronically submitted to the application database. The department will consider your application only after you have entered your personal and academic information in the online application, submitted the application fee and provided all supporting documents.

Applicants can edit an in-progress application and check the status of all documents submitted using a secure password and Userid.
Email account is needed to complete the online application, as the University will correspond with applicants using email. Applications are considered complete and can be reviewed only after all documentation is received by the Graduate Department of Physics.
Documents required
1. Provide the biographical and educational information requested.
2. Be prepared to submit contact information for TWO referees. Be sure to inform your referees that you are doing this and that the University will be contacting them by email. NOTE: If a referee reports that s/he has not received the email invitation to submit a letter, remind the referee that it is coming and to check the junk mail folder or set "utoronto.ca" or "sgs.utoronto.ca" as a safe sender.
3. Submit your payment (online payment is preferred but mail-in payment is. Payment of your application fee must be received by the School of Graduate Studies before we will consider your application.
4. Arrange to submit Official Transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended
5. Submit your Letter of Intent and, if you wish, Statement of Research Experience
6. Arrange for Official Proof of English facility, if applicable
NOTE: It is your responsibility to monitor the status of your documents in the online application and to follow up with your referees if references are not received in advance
