SCI Merit Award

The Society of Chemical Industry Merit Award (Canadian Section)

This award was originally established at U of T Mississauga (formerly Erindale college) in 1979 by The Society of Chemical Industry, Canadian Section to recognize scholarship at U of T Mississauga. The Society of Chemical Industry was established in England in 1881”to advance applied chemistry in all its branches. To afford its members opportunities for the interchange of ideas with respect to improvements in the various chemical industries and for the discussion of all matter bearing upon the practice of applied chemistry and the publication of the information thereon.”  (Quoted from the Society of Chemical Industry, Canadian Section Merit Awards brochure, 1979.)

It is awarded annually to the student who has achieved the highest standing in the 4th and final year of a specialist program involving Chemistry alone or in combination with allied subjects such as Physics, Mathematics, Geology, Biochemistry, etc.; in addition to completing such a program within 4 years, the recipient of the award must have attained a minimum average of 75%).
