either Monday May 6th at 10am,or Tuesday May 7th at 1pm.


Wondering what career paths you can take with your graduate degree? Not sure how to apply your graduate-level skills in the workplace? Questions on making the transition into industry with your graduate degree?

Attend this networking reception to mix and mingle with leading industry professionals with a diverse range of graduate degrees. Learn about their experience, develop a network of contacts, and gain valuable insight from professionals.

  • Rahul Sarugaser, PhD, MBA
    Director, Business Development, Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine (CCRM)

    Rahul holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of Oxford. Rahul is responsible for CCRM's business development activities including assessment, due diligence and in-licensing of high-potential regenerative medicine IP assets from CCRM's institutional members, as well as managing relationships with CCRM's Industry Consortium members. Before joining CCRM, Rahul was an Investment Manager with the MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund, a Toronto-based venture capital fund where he evaluated and executed due diligence on life-science companies for seed-stage through series-B investment. Prior to that, he worked in strategic marketing at GE Healthcare’s headquarters in the UK, identifying in-licensing and investment opportunities for GE’s cell therapy and devices portfolio. Rahul has published and presented in the stem cell field, and is an inventor on two patents that have been licensed to Tissue Regeneration Therapeutics in Toronto

    A summary of my work experience in one phrase would be 'research and development'. Through the course of my education and work experiences, I've worked in different areas from aircraft thermal insulation to molecular biophysics to renewable energy. My work at TSSA involves a unique blend of mathematics, risk management principles and public policy.

    I am a recent graduate of the University of Toronto’s Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology with undergraduate degrees in physics from Waterloo and history/philosophy from York. In my current role I offer layers of support to graduate students that I wish I had known were available to me as a struggling PhD candidate.

    Monali Ray is currently a medical student at the University of Toronto. Prior to this she completed her doctoral studies at the UofT's Institute of Medical Science. Monali's  research was in the area of science policy and innovation studies. Her doctoral thesis examined collaboration between Canada and emerging economies (Brazil and India) - research as well as entrepreneurial - in the field of health biotechnology. Monali completed her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at McMaster University.

    Janet LeClair is a Human Resource Professional with over 20 years’ experience in the biotechnology, life sciences, and academic research space.
    Currently working with the University of Toronto as Manager, Administrative Services for the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, she continues to provide HR Consulting services to innovative companies, start-ups and SMEs.
    Previous roles include: Chief Administrative Officer for YORKbiotech Inc. where she led the renewal application and subsequent creation of ventureLAB – a Regional Innovation Centre and part of Ontario’s Network of Excellence Program; Manager, Human Resources & Communications for the Toronto Centre for Phenogenomics (TCP) a shared hospital research facility;  Manager of Operations for the McLaughlin Centre for Molecular Medicine; and Director, Human Resources & Administration with GlycoDesign Inc., a bio-pharmaceutical company.
    Janet has had the pleasure to serve on the board of directors with BioTalent Canada since 2006 and is co-chair of the Mentorship Committee for Life Sciences Ontario.   She volunteered her time for the inaugural Organizing Committee of the Canadian Science Policy Conference (CSPC 2009); and has been an invited speaker on ‘Careers in Life Sciences’ for the Life Science Career Development Series (LSCDS), UofT, Oct’09  and a panelist for UofT’s Tri-campus Career Services Professional Development Day, Dec’12.
    A graduate of Ryerson University’s Business Administration Program and the Rotman School of Management’s Advanced Program in Human Resources, University of Toronto, she holds a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) designation.

    Dr. Sinclair has worked in R&D in small and large organizations for almost 3 decades.  He was a vice president at Bodycote (now Exova) for a decade, leading groups in Montreal, Toronto, Chicago and Los Angeles. He has worked at MaRS Innovation (MI) for the last 4 years commercializing IP out of Toronto institutions.  He is presently the CEO of an MI spin-out; OtoSim Inc.
     
  • Sandi Sodhi, MSc - Human Genetics
    Genetic Counsellor, Trillium Health Partners - The Credit Valley Hospital

    Sandi completed a BSc in Science & Business, Co-op from The University of Waterloo. Following this, I completed my MSc in Human Genetics from Sarah Lawrence College in New York. I have been working at CVH as a Genetic Counsellor for six years.
     
  • Ricardo Gomez Insausti, MA in Urban Geography, PHD in Urban/Regional Economic Development
    Sr. VP Research, BBM Canada

    Ricardo Gomez-Insausti is the Vice President of Research at BBM Canada, where oversees the Research Department and Call Centre Operations, and the Market Research Division of BBM Analytics. He also serves on Advisory Councils of Humber College and Ryerson University. He has held academic positions at Syracuse University and Ryerson University. He was also consultant to corporations in the retail and service industries, and policy advisor to government agencies. Ricardo holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto from the Department of Geography and Planning and has published numerous articles in academic and professional journals
