Overview
What is the Extern Job Shadowing Program?
Explore a career by visiting with professionals in the workplace. Extern Job Shadowing Program participants meet with their host to conduct informational interviews, observe daily work activities, tour a number of departments, or meet with staff to discuss the industry.
The program takes place twice a year, during reading week (Feb 19-22, 2013) and during the first week after final exams (April 29 – May 3, 2013). Placements vary in length from brief informational interviews to placements lasting from one to five days in length.
By participating in this program, you can investigate the skills, educational requirements, work environment, and lifestyle that accompany all aspects of a career.
Who is this for?
Currently enrolled U of T students who are, at time of application, also registered with their campus career centre. First-year undergraduate students are eligible only for the May program. Students will be expected to research their potential career area before applying to the program.
What will I learn?
- To articulate the day to day activities of your career placement
- To assess if the career you explored through your placement/information interview is the career you want to pursue
- To articulate the key steps in career planning
- To identify the next step in your career development
Placement dates:
February 19-22, 2013 (Reading Week)
(NOTE: the last mandatory orientation date is on October 30, 2012.)
April 29 – May 3, 2013 (week after final exams)
(Check our events calendar in the winter session for orientation dates.)
