Canada Summer Jobs
The Human Resources Department at UT Mississauga provides information concerning the CANADA SUMMER JOBS PROGRAM (formally the Summer Career Placement Program). The APPLICATION DEADLINE is usually in February each year, but please confirm deadline dates directly with Human Resources.
CANADA SUMMER JOBS (CSJ) is part of the "Federal Government Youth Employment and Learning Strategy" summer employment initiatives. CSJ focuses on youth by providing work experience and development learning experience to in-school youth during the summer months.
The objective of the CSJ is to provide a wage subsidy to employers to create incremental jobs for students in order to prepare them for future labor market participation. A weekly-subsidized benefit (was $4.38 per hour in 2008), may be obtained for a minimum of 6 consecutive weeks to a maximum of 16 consecutive weeks. Only one person per position will be granted. As the employer you will be required to top-up the funding to bring the hourly wage up to the minimum wage, pllus vacation pay and employer benefit costs.
If you would like to apply for a Canada Summer Job position, please contact Sharon Carleton in the U of T Mississauga Human Resources Department either via telephone at 905-569-4387 or e-mail sharon.carleton@utoronto.ca (PLEASE NOTE: Due to government deadlines, which have been shortened, late applications can NOT be processed).
The application assessment phase is typically completed in April in order that employers will be able to have students begin working in May.
