Transfer Students

Admission with Transfer Credit: University or College

New for 2013

The University of Toronto has joined with the following six Ontario Universities to make it easier for students to get credit for courses already completed. Students who have completed any first year, arts and science degree course at McMaster University, Queen's University, University of Guelph, University of Ottawa, University of Waterloo, or Western University, with a minimum grade of 60%, are assured of general, first year credit upon admission to any University of Toronto Arts and Science division (UTM, UTSC, FAS on the St. George campus).

Among the 7-member University Credit Transfer Consortium , we will grant specific course credit for more than 20 of the most popular and highly subscribed first year foundational courses. Consortium members are committed to ensuring that all courses within our degrees meet the standards of high quality and that our foundational courses adequately prepare for more focused learning in higher years. Completing any of these foundational courses at any Consortium member university will satisfy the program prerequisite requirement that the corresponding U of T course would satisfy, subject to meeting grade requirements.

Course equivalencies for popular and high enrolment courses

U of T Mississauga applicants who have acceptable standing at other accredited universities, post-secondary colleges, or University of Toronto faculties or schools may be considered for admission with transfer credit provided that the content of previous studies is considered appropriate for inclusion in a U of T Mississauga degree program.

University Applicants

U of T Mississauga grants a maximum of 10.0 transfer credits to students who have previous undergraduate studies at another accredited university. Students who have completed an undergraduate degree (or over 12.5 U of T equivalent credits) at another university are eligible for a maximum of 5.0 transfer credits.

College Applicants

U of T Mississauga grants a maximum of 5.0 transfer credits to students who have completed the requirements for a three-year college diploma, specifically, four at the 100-level and one at the 200-level (Note: for Commerce and Management applicants, the maximum is 3.5 transfer credits). Students with a two-year college diploma normally receive 2.0 to 3.0 transfer credits.

U of T Mississauga has partnered with the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning to simplify the transfer process from these institutions. Please visit our College Pathways page for more details about transferring to U of T Mississauga.

Reassessment & Adjustment

Newly admitted students have one year from the date of their transfer credit assessment, or from the date of their first registration at U of T Mississauga, whichever is later, to request a reassessment or adjustment. The same time limit applies to all department interviews and submission of course outlines (syllabi).

Please visit our On-Admission Transfer Credit Assessment page for more detail about transferring to U of T Mississauga with previous university or college studies. Note: if you are already a U of T Mississauga student and have taken (or would like to take) courses at another institution, please refer to our Letters of Permission & Post-Admission Transfer Credit Assessment page.

U of T Internal Transfer Students

An internal transfer student is a student who is currently (or has previously) registered at U of T in a degree, diploma, certificate, pre-university program or as either a non-degree or visiting student.

If you wish to transfer to U of T Mississauga from a different U of T faculty, you should apply on an Internal Application for full-time studies or on a Part-Time Application for part-time studies. Admission will be based on your overall academic record and your most recent year of full-time studies. In addition all program prerequisites must be met.

Students who have already completed an undergraduate degree at U of T’s Faculty of Arts and Science or U of T Scarborough may complete a second undergraduate degree at U of T Mississauga provided that the second degree is of a different type than the first (e.g. a student who has completed a B.A. at U of T’s Faculty of Arts and Science may not complete a second B.A. at U of T Mississauga).

Students admitted to U of T Mississauga with previous acceptable standing at U of T’s Faculty of Arts and Science or U of T Scarborough do not need to pay for a Transfer Credit Assessment: their courses and grades will be automatically retained and remain on their academic record.

Students admitted to U of T Mississauga with previous acceptable standing at other University of Toronto undergraduate divisions (i.e. Applied Science and Engineering, Music, Physical Education and Health) must pay for Transfer Credit Assessment using the steps below.

Students who previously attended U of T Mississauga and wish to return after an absence of at least 12 consecutive months, should complete a Request to Re-Activate Student Record Form.

Transfer Credit Process

Simple — just follow these four steps.

1. Pay for transfer credit assessment

Once you receive your offer of admission, go to the Online Transfer Credit Payment Form and submit payment of the $30 assessment fee. Alternatively, students may pay via debit, credit card, or cheques in person at the U of T Mississauga Office of the Registrar.

Note: transfer credit assessment priority will be given to students who have accepted their U of T Mississauga offer of admission.

2. Submit official course outlines (syllabi)

Detailed course outlines are necessary for students to receive an accurate and complete assessment. A detailed course outline should include: the course objectives, the number of credit hours, the length of the course, the grading scheme, a week-to-week topic summary, a reading list (i.e. required textbooks), and a breakdown of essays, tests, and exams.

Submitting detailed course outlines is mandatory for courses taken outside of Canada, however, the Transfer Credit Unit often requires outlines for Canadian courses in order to proceed with domestic assessments. Therefore, to facilitate a quick and accurate assessment and to ensure appropriate course selection, it is advisable for all students to submit detailed syllabi well before U of T Mississauga’s course enrollment dates.

Detailed course outlines (syllabi) for previous studies may be submitted electronically via email: transfer.utm@utoronto.ca (Word Documents or PDF files only). Alternatively, hard copies may be mailed, couriered, or delivered in person to the address below.

3. Official English translations

Official English translations must accompany official transcripts and course outlines issued in a language other than English.

4. Have your previous institution(s) mail us your final official transcripts

Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution to U of T Mississauga's Transfer Credit Office (we do not accept copies "issued to student"). Have transcripts sent to:
