Summer Transition Program

2013 Summer Transition Program for Incoming First Year Students with Learning Disabilities

Saturday, August 24th - Sunday, August 25th, 2013

10:00am - 3:00pm

The Summer Institute is a comprehensive transition program for incoming first year UTM students with learning disabilities. This FREE two day program will provide participants with the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to have a successful transition to the University's academic environment. Students will develop these skills by participating in a series of interactive sessions that include:

  • managing academic accommodations
  • test taking strategies
  • taking effective notes
  • using assistive technology
  • study skills strategies
  • time management tools
  • self-advocacy

Registration is for both days of the two day program. Lunch and light refreshments are provided on both days.

Registration in the Transition Program for students with Learning Disabilities will require an intake appointment, two-weeks prior to the program, with the Disability Advisor who will review medical documentation confirming your learning disability diagnosis. PLEASE NOTE: For the purposes of this program and for setting up academic accommodations and services, Individual Education Plans (IEP) are not accepted as sufficient medical documentation. Additionally, International Students or speakers of English as a Second/Foreign language do not meet the requirements of a learning disability, unless a diagnosis of a learning disability has been made in the primary language spoken.
