My primary research area focuses on cognitive developmental issues in the auditory domain. I am especially interested in music perception and cognition, particularly on reciprocal influences between basic psychological processes and musical structures. I am also interested in the cognitive (nonmusical) consequences of formal music lessons. Some of my research focuses on special populations such as hearing-impaired children with cochlear implants. My research is currently funded by: 1. The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada 2. The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada I am a Professor in the Department of Psychology and I am cross-appointed as a member of Graduate Faculty in the Faculty of Music.
