First-Year Experience

The RGASC has a comprehensive approach to the First-Year Experience. Rather than isolate the different constituencies (faculty, teaching assistants, students, mentors, academic support) and disciplines from each other, we bring them together through an integrated set of programs. We offer Prior Learning Assessments, a University Prep Program & a Facilitated Study Group program; we have faculty who work in various departments developing our students' writing and science skills through a range of discipline-specific programs; and we work with teaching assistants and individual faculty members to help them improve their teaching skills. These different areas of focus can be conceptualized as pieces of a puzzle which, when pieced together, present a coherent portrait of the effort we make to help First-Year students make the transition from high-school to university:
